Karibu is the Swahili word for 'welcome.' When you visit Tanzania, you hear karibu many times as you encounter warm and gracious hospitality.
We welcome you to learn more about Godparents for Tanzania. We are a 501(c)(3) public charity that provides educational opportunities for young people in northern Tanzania. By awarding scholarships and supporting local education projects, Godparents for Tanzania provides 'hope through education' to students who are eager for the chance to go to school. With education, young Tanzanians are changing the future for themselves, their families, and their country.
Godparents for Tanzania works together with generous individuals, churches, and community groups who want to make a difference for young people in Africa. Please join us! Consider becoming a godparent. Karibu!
Our story begins in 1995, with a visit to Tanzania that established a deep friendship and a shared mission.
We believe that education is the most effective way to help young Tanzanians overcome poverty.
"If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together." (Swahili proverb)
